PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (eLearning)

Who should take this course?

Exploration, excitement and experiences are what scuba diving is all about. The Advanced Open Water Diver course is designed to advance your diving, so you can start right after earning your PADI Open Water Diver certification. The course helps build confidence and expand your scuba skills through different Adventure Dives. You try out different specialties while gaining experience under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. You log dives and develop capabilities as you find new ways to have fun scuba diving.

What will you learn?

You'll plan your leaning path with your instructor by choosing from a long list of Adventure Dives. There are two required dives - Deep and Underwater Navigation - and you choose the other three, for a total of five dives.

  • During the Deep Adventure Dive, you learn how to plan dives to deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving.
  • The Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive refines your compass navigation skills and helps you better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks and time.
  • The other three dives are set by your instructor but include interests such as buoyancy control, exploring wrecks, search & recovery, and more.

Next Steps:

Visit a Scuba Shack location to sign up for Advanced Open Water today! When signing up in the shop, you will receive your student materials and important paperwork to complete. We will also make copies of your certification card at this time. This is also a great time to purchase or reserve rental scuba gear that you need for your course. Students are responsible for their own snorkeling and scuba gear. If you already have your own gear we recommend bringing it by the store for a technician to make sure it is all in good working order.

There is no formal classroom meeting for this course. Students review academics at the quarry with their instructor prior to getting in the water. The required dives for this course can be completed in one weekend with Scuba Shack at Pennyroyal Scuba Center in Hopkinsville, KY. Rental gear and Pennyroyal diver fees are not included in the course. Advanced Open Water students are responsible for registering themselves as divers with Pennyroyal Scuba Center.
